3. Stabilise, Rig, and Recover
The unit is stabilised first so it cannot shift during the pull. Rigging is then set using rated hardware at appropriate attachment points, and the pull is made at a controlled angle and speed. 4. Transport or Secure Storage

Jackknife
The trailer has folded against the tractor, usually after braking on a slick surface or a driveline issue. The unit is typically blocking lanes, so traffic control comes first. Recovery involves controlling the trailer while the angle between the units is reduced, rather than simply pulling the tractor forward, which can damage the fifth wheel and the frame.
Rollover
The most demanding scenario. A loaded trailer on its side has to be uprighted without dropping it back down or losing the load through the doors or sides. This is rotator work. Depending on cargo, offloading before uprighting is sometimes the only safe route, which makes it a two-stage job.
Ditch and Soft Ground
Common on Alberta rural roads and after spring thaw. Winching is done from an anchor and angle that pulls the unit along its natural line of travel rather than dragging it sideways. Sideways pulls on a loaded trailer are how rollovers get created during a recovery.
Load Shift
Cargo that has moved can leave one side of an axle group carrying far more than it should. The unit may look fine and still be close to going over. These are stabilised before being moved at all, and the load is often re-secured on scene.

One blown tire on a dual set may be moveable a short distance. Two on the same side is not, because the remaining tires and the axle are carrying loads they are not rated for. That becomes a transport job rather than a limp to the next exit.
